An Enchanted Island
I've found an enchanted island--and it's just 20 minutes from my doorstep. Sauvie Island is spectacular. The Willamette River flows on one side of the island, the Columbia flows on the other. The second I drive over the bridge-I feel at peace. On a clear day I can see Mt. St Helens (I could see her today-picture below), Mt. Hood (too smoky today) and Mt. Adams from the bridge. The soil on Sauvie Island is rich-so agriculture is huge! There's a darling market called Kruger's-it's open everyday of the week-and it sells farm fresh produce at reasonable prices. Every piece of fruit or vegetable has a sign that says where it was grown-and a lot of it was grown just a few feet from the store. There are pumpkin patches, lavender fields, hydrangeas (right up there with dahlias in my book :) ), a quaint community church, a school, several dairies and of course there's a public beach (a clothing option beach, too-and :) NO, I don't have any pictures from there-I haven't visited yet). The beach is about 8 miles from the bridge. For much of the drive-blackberry bushes grow like weeds in the shoulder. I had to stop and pick some today. Delicious. At the beach I love to people watch- I also love to watch the little tug boats push their loads up and down the Columbia. Here are some pictures of this enchanted place. Hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them.
